今月は最近ラグナウッズに引っ越してこられた吐川さんが太極拳のデモンストレーションをして下さいました。　吐川さんは現在ラグナウッズでも太極拳を教えていらっしゃいます。

今月の定例ミーティングの参加者は40名でした。

 For the month of February, we’ve had a Tai Chi Demonstration  by Mr. Hakikawa, who had recently moved to Laguna Woods. Mr. Hakikawa also teaches TaiChi within the Laguna Woods community.

 The attendance for this meeting was 40.

4月の例会には今月我らが Villageに引っ越してこられた川田 薫さん（芸名、伊勢屋大福さん）が趣味としてやってこられた落語を披露してくださいました。出し物は古典落語の『やど換え』。プロ並みの熱演に会場が湧きました。　川田さんは色んなレパートリーをお持ちの様ですので将来も度々この会で熱演いただけると思います。

今月の定例ミーティングの参加者は43名でした。

今月のJCCへの新入会員は（順不同、敬称略）Dorothy Okamoto, Hisako Aoki, Kay Han Chung, Saburo Morioka, Richard Yeh, Kaoru Kawata　の方々でした。

 For this month Mr. Kaoru Kawata (Stage Name Iseya Daifuku), who recently moved to Laguna Woods, gave a “Rakugo performance”(comedic story telling)at our regular meeting. Rakugo is one of Mr. Kawata’s hobbies. The performance was on the classical rakugo, “Yadokae(changing lodge). His virtually professional performance was a great hit with the audience.  Mr. Kawata has quite a repertoire of rakugo stories so we can expect more to come in the future. 

 The attendance for this meeting was 43.

皆さんご存知の様に我らのJCC会⻑、⼩坂⽥さんはJCCの例会の為に毎回楽しい企画を⽤意 して下さっています。特に今年は⼀年を通して楽しい会にしたいという趣旨で、6月には詩吟発表 会と映画鑑賞会が計画されました。 詩吟の方はここ Laguna Woodsのクラブハウス３にて毎週⼟曜⽇に練習されている詩吟の会のメンバーを中⼼とした発表会で、張りのある⼒強い詩吟で JCCの会員を魅了しました。 詩吟は漢詩に節をつけて吟ずることですが、ともすれば難解な漢詩 が前もってプリントされ、丁寧な解説も付けられて皆さんの手元に配られていたので、あまり詩吟に 関⼼がなかった人たちにもわかりやすかったと思います。   

 As you are aware,  Mr. Osakada, the JCC chairman, has prepared entertaining programs for each regular meeting. For June, he had planned a Shigin concert and a movie as part of his effort to provide entertaining events throughout the year. The Shigin concert was held by members of our local club who practice every Saturday at Club House 3.Their performances mesmerized the audience with their hearty voices. Shigin is a traditional Japanese song based on Chinese-style poetry which can be difficult to understand at times. So, we had printed the poems with commentaries so even those with little interest in the art would be able to understand.

映画鑑賞会の方は当地では普段なかなか⾒られない⽇本の優秀な映画の上映をオレンジカウン ティー で続けて おられる⽇本映画振興会の朝倉さんに特別にヴィレッジに来ていただいて素晴らしいアニメ映画を 上映していただきました。 　このアニメは⽇本の1940年代の家族を中⼼に当時の情勢を描いた ⼼温まる映画で、お帰りの方達からも大変楽しかったという声がきかれました。このような楽しい企画もあって今月の例会の参加者は62名という今年最⾼の盛会でした 。

 The movie portion featured an excellent Japanese motion picture that can rarely been seen here in the U.S. This Anime movie was shown by Mr. Asakura of Orange County’s Japanese Motion Picture Promotion Association who personally brought the film to  this village. This heart-warming movie depicted a family in the 1940s, describing the situation during those years in Japan. After the show, several members have commented how entertaining the movie was. Perhaps, because of this entertaining program, we’ve had an all-time high attendance of 62 persons.

2018年8月例会 

８月の定例ミーティングは毎年ハワイアンDAYという事になっていて、今年もLWV（Laguna Woods Village）在住のマイク 雨宮さん率いるハワイアンクラブ　Laguna Hawaiians の演奏でハワイアンソングだけでなく、ジャズ、ラテンなど幅広いレパートリーの熱演に会場が湧きました。　雨宮さんのハワイアングループは今回で6度目のJCCでの演奏だという事です。

 The August meeting, annually is always “Hawaiian Day.” It was no different this year as Mr. Mike Amemiya, a village resident, with his band of Laguna Hawaiians entertained us not only with Hawaiian songs, but also with a wide range of music and songs based on jazz and latin music. This was the Hawaiian group’s sixth performance at JCC meetings.

また、今回初めてJCCでデビューのLinda Katoさんによる素晴らしいフラダンスもハワイアンDAYにピッタリの出し物で、皆さんへのおもいがけないプレゼントでした。　

 Also, Ms Linda Kato made her debut at JCC with her wonderful hula dances that perfectly matched the Hawaiian Day event. It was an unexpected present to the JCC audience.

また当日は近代JCCが発足する以前にJCCの会長を何期も務められたBob Tsubota　さんの94才の誕生日だったので、みんなで　♪ハッピーバースデイ♪　を歌いました。ボブさんは毎週日曜日に日本人ゴルファーが12人ほど集まってゴルフを楽しんでいる “Bob’s Boys Club” の創設者でもあるのですが、今年LWVを卒業なさり、LWVの14番ゲートのすぐ前にあるRegency というAssisted Living施設に入っておられます。　

今月もこのような楽しい例会で56名の方々が参加され、大変盛況でした。

 Also, we celebrated Bob Tsubota’s 94th birthday with a chorus of “Happy Birthday”.

Bob had served several terms as chairman of the earlier version of the JCC before this present club was founded.

 He is also the founder of the “Bob’s Boys Club”、a group of about 12 Japanese golfers who play every Sunday at our course.

 He has left the village this year but lives close by at the assisted-living facility of the Regency right by Gate 14.

 This month also featured a great entertaining meeting with a total of 56 persons attending.

そして勿論いつもの Goodie Table と楽しいお喋り！

10月の例会は恒例のホワイトエレファントデイセールでしたが、今年も盛況で60名ぐらいという多くの人が参加して下さり、結果は大変良好でした。沢山の品物も寄付され、大部分が売れたことを皆様のご協力によるものと感謝いたします。　売り上げ額の方は期待より低かったのですが、格安販売ですから納得できます。また、笠原さん、山本さんご夫妻、ケネディー文代さん、その他の人々が商品の展示、値札付け、販売、代金回収と大活躍していただいたことに感謝申し上げます。

 今年の活況に勇気つけられて、来年ももう少し工夫努力してこれを続けたいと思います。 

The annual White Elephant sale held in October, as usual, was a great successs with more than 60 members participating in the event.  Thanks to you all, many articles were donated and most of them sold.

While sales volume were lower than expected, it is perhaps understandable since, after all, it’s a bargain sale.　We would like to thank Kasahara-san, Mr. and Mrs Yamamoto, Ms. Fumiyo Kennedy and others for cooperating in price tagging, displaying the articles and selling the goods. Encouraged by this success, we would like to continue this event next year also, by adding a bit of creative touch.

ここ数年は弁当を食べながらの忘年会を催してきて、楽しみにしておられる人も多かったので、今年もそのような会になりました。

この忘年会を盛り上げるイベントは2部、2時間あまりという盛りだくさんの音楽会でした。先ず、第一部はジャズ；日本で活躍されているプロのジャズ歌手、池田なみさんがおなじみのジャズスタンダードナンバー、The Nearness of you, Memories of you, その他を歌ってくださいました。この池田なみさんは第2部でシャンソンを歌ってくださる樹里さんを丁度日本から訪問されていたのをJCCのコンサートに特別出演して下さったものです。続いて昨年も来ていただいたプロのジャズピアニスト布川さんとハワイアンでベースをいつも弾いて下さるお馴染みのゲーリーさん、同じくおなじみの檀さんのヴォーカルによる演歌やジャズのセッション、これも我等シニアに懐かしいスタンダードナンバーばかりでした。最後はラグナウッドヴィレッジに最近引っ越してこられたトニー加藤さんが早稲田大学のジャズ楽団で演奏されて、現在も時々演奏活動をされている見事なトランペットも交えたセッションでした。　尚、トニー加藤さんの奥様は8月のJCCの例会で素晴らしいフラダンスを披露して下さっています。

今回の定例はおそらくJCC始まって以来の大規模な催し物だったと思いますが、この音楽会はいつもJCCの定例でジャズやハワイアンを歌ってくださる壇さんが奔走されて特別に盛大な企画をして下さいました。また、現役員のみならず、前期の役員の方々、ケネディーさんなど多くの方に積極的に協力していただけた結果、成功裏に終わることが出来ました。　そのように協力を惜しまない方々がたくさんおられることは大変ありがたく、又心強いことです。

シャンソンを歌ってくださった寿里さんも,多分お世辞半分にしろ、JCCの皆さんが本当に真剣に聴いてくれていて自分のコンサートより楽しかったと何度もおっしゃておられました。演奏者の方々も損得抜きで、このJCCという老人クラブに何かしてやろうと喜んで参加してくださった様に感じられ、これも嬉しいことでした。

 この例会の参加者は71名でした。
